The True Craft Story
Micheal Smith has grown up with a hammer in his hand. Pictures were taken of him helping his father build the family’s house with tool belt and hammer in hand. He was only 3. He has loved building things every since. His love for construction took a more serious note when in 1991 Micheal and his wife Michelle bought their first house in foreclosure. With the help of family, they did a complete renovation and sold it 3 years later for a profit. That was the first experience in real estate for Micheal, which was the spark that eventually grew into what is now True Craft Homes.

In 1996 Micheal completed his degree in Business with a concentration in Financial Management from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He then went into business for the family managing a Nursery. Soon thereafter he contracted his first house for he and Michelle on the property. In the late nineties, this small town near Charlotte, NC was growing rapidly and the family property was determined to be more profitable growing houses rather than plants.

Micheal went back to school and completed some training for the NC Contractors Exam. He received his contractor’s license in the summer of 1999 and began to build when it was decided to develop the property in 2003. The market overheated in 2005 and the county stopped all new construction projects. This left Micheal wondering what to do.

In 2006, a friend asked him if he would consider moving to the Greenville area and help develop a piece of property in Travelers Rest. When Micheal and his family visited the immediately fell in love with the place and proceeded to relocate. They have now finished developing The Ridge at Sunset, one of Travelers Rest’s newest Subdivisions. Lot sales have been steady and the homes are being constructed. Micheal and his family would love to invite you to come see why they fell in love with Travelers Rest in Greenville County, SC.
